At Berkswell we believe that PE and School Sport are vitally important as they provide children with the integral building blocks that lead to a life-long active and healthy life-style. We aim to achieve this in three main ways:
Firstly by providing high-quality, holistic PE lessons to all children that recognise the key abilities that children need to be successful, both within PE and Sport and across the curriculum. These lessons focus on both the fundamental movement skills that are used throughout all sporting activities and inter-personal skills that are integral to be able to achieve in all subjects. They are a fun and exciting experience that allow children to develop their skills whilst providing the opportunity to apply these skills in both games and competition.
Secondly we endeavour to provide as many extra-curricular sporting opportunities as possible to all of our children. We run a comprehensive list of extra-curricular clubs throughout the year for children to explore a range of different sporting activities and we run a programme of Level 1 events which introduce all children to competing against others in representation of their house.
Finally, through our active membership in the South Solihull Partnership, we aim to ensure that as many children as possible are given the opportunity to represent the school at Level 2 and Level 3 events. From being a member of our netball, football or basketball team to representing the school in a cricket, dance or cheerleading festival there are a great many opportunities for the children to put their skills into practise and compete against other children in Solihull.
Sainsbury’s School Games Kitemark
I am pleased to announce that in September Berkswell was awarded the Sainsbury’s School Games Silver Kite-mark for the third time. This is in recognition of the wide variety of sporting opportunities that we provide for the children across the school.
